Metal Buildings vs. Wood: No Contest!

Filed under: Metal Buildings — Metal Buildings Expert @ 2:23 pm

When it comes to choosing a construction material for any structure, metal buildings just make sense. When compared to the characteristics of wood-framed buildings especially, metal is far superior. Before shopping around for a more traditional form of construction, consider all that metal buildings have to offer.

For one, buildings that are constructed with wood are susceptible to fire. While a fire in a wooden building may result in a catastrophic loss, if a fire were to start inside of a metal building, the steel frames will not burn. This may be good for your budget, as certain types of metal buildings can actually lower insurance premiums.

Another fantastic feature of metal buildings is their impermeability to insect damage and infestation, particularly of wood-destroying insects such as termites. Metal is never on a termite’s menu – and this aspect of metal buildings will save you in maintenance and upkeep over the years. Yet another savings to the maintenance budget stems from the durability of the metal structure. While wood will eventually rot, metal will never rot, assuring owners of the stability of their building or years to come.

Two other important benefits of metal buildings are significant time and money savers. First of all, when a pre-fabricated metal building arrives on the construction site, it is pre-bolted, pre-engineered and requires little to no fabricating at the job site. On the contrary, wooden structures generally come with no drawings or engineers seal – and it must all be fabricated at the site. In addition, metal buildings, because they are pre-fabricated – require half the time to erect than a traditional structure.

Considering all the facts, it starts to become clear that metal buildings are the way to go, whether as a residence or for commercial use. Metal buildings offer a myriad of styles and designs that can be customized to your needs, and can also save you money and time.

Metal Buildings: Insulation Information

Filed under: Metal Buildings — Metal Buildings Expert @ 4:34 pm

Metal buildings have many characteristics that differ from buildings made of more traditional materials such as wood. One of the biggest differences is the insulation requirements of metal buildings. Before beginning any metal building construction, the types and styles of metal buildings insulation should be considered.

To begin with, the roofing and siding of metal buildings are water resistant. This characteristic is great except for the fact that what makes metal buildings water resistant also makes the buildings difficult to ventilate naturally. However, with the proper insulation, metal buildings can not only be built to circulate air for hotter weather but also keep a building warm in the cooler months.

Metal buildings that lack insulation will lose a lot of their heat through the sides and roof. These metal buildings will also find a build up of moisture that tends to condense throughout the interior of metal buildings lacking insulation. Lacking insulation in metal buildings, therefore, can increase heating bills and create an unhealthy environment due to moisture build up.

Insulation in metal buildings will eliminate the problem of high heating bills by giving an added layer of protection against warm air escaping. Insulated doors of metal buildings are especially helpful in keeping warm air in because most air escapes through door areas.

Proper insulation will also reduce or eliminate moisture build up in metal buildings. Vapor barriers can also be placed under concrete pads to lessen condensation. With the right type of insulation, vapor barriers and plenty of ventilation, metal buildings can be close to moisture free.

Metal buildings, for so many reasons, are a better option over more traditional materials. With the proper design and insulation, an owner will reap the rewards of ownership for years to come.

Trim and Gutters for Metal Buildings

Filed under: Metal Buildings — Metal Buildings Expert @ 5:37 pm

Once you have found a reputable metal buildings manufacturer to work with, there are many different factors to consider during the design phase of your project. For example, the presence of gutters and trim on metal buildings may seem like an afterthought to some, but these elements are essential to both the function and aesthetic quality of your building.

It is very important that the trim package selected for metal buildings are built by the manufacturer to the exact specifications of your building. Trim is the finishing touch that covers up and acts as a seal between connected areas of the building. This is essential to making the building resistant to weather and also to give it a finished look. With many different colors available in trim pieces, this is also another way to add character to metal buildings. If you have any questions about trim packages, consult with your metal buildings manufacturer.

Gutters and downspouts are another important aspect of any structure. Proper drainage is critical for almost any building, and this includes metal buildings. Gutters are essential to control roof runoff and are another great way to add a finishing touch to the building. Downspouts in turn direct water away from the building, preventing possible foundation damage and keeping dirty water from staining the building walls. As with with trim, be sure that gutters are built to the specs of your metal building plans, and that the corner connections are factory-mitered.

While gutters and trim may seem like an unimportant detail during the construction of metal buildings, they nevertheless play a vital role. From protecting the building from the elements to adding that professional, finished look, gutters and trim are details of metal buildings that should not be ignored.

What Makes Metal Buildings the Perfect Investment?

Filed under: Metal Buildings — Metal Buildings Expert @ 3:53 pm

Very few things are a sure bet in life. Yet when it comes to making a sound business investment, metal buildings are, hands down, a winner.

When listing the pros and cons of purchasing and constructing metal buildings to be used for business purposes, there are very few, if any, cons. However, the list of pros is long. Topping the list are flexibility and affordability, which are just two of the benefits derived from opting to invest in metal buildings.

Growth is a natural part of a success business. With growth often comes a change in office or storage needs. This change can necessitate a purchase of a newer, larger building facility to accommodate the need for increased space.

Metal buildings, however, provide the ability to change existing office and storage space and to easily add on to a structure without having to purchase new space. By utilizing existing space, a company can avoid moving costs or experience an interruption in business that can hurt the bottom line.

Affordability is another plus of metal buildings. Unlike the high cost of building wood or brick structures, metal buildings can help businesses realize huge savings. Metal buildings cost less to purchase, build and run than more traditional structures.

Metal buildings make perfect investments for smart businesses. Because metal buildings can be changed and expanded, a business can grow without having a space constraint. And because metal buildings cost less to purchase and build, a business will find more money in its pockets in both the short and long term.

Metal Buildings: Customized for You, Part I

Filed under: Metal Buildings — Metal Buildings Expert @ 5:36 am

Once upon time, metal buildings conjured up images of a grey steel box, maybe with a big commercial garage door, a flat roof and, if you were lucky – a window to let in a little light. But times have changed.

Metal buildings are becoming more and more flexible as far as the style and design of the structures for which they are being used. For example, these types of prefabricated buildings can built with a second floor, customized exteriors, or with steeper roofs that are more aesthetically pleasing to the metal buildings of the past. These days, churches, schools, municipal buildings, arenas, and more are commonly constructed from metal – and with the availability of custom design and finishes, sometimes these buildings cannot be distinguished from traditional types of construction.

If it’s a second floor that you need – a metal structure can be fabricated for you. It will cost more money, obviously, and require more complex engineering in order to handle the load of the second story, but it is a manageable project in today’s metal buildings market.

If the last thing you want is a dull grey box like metal buildings of the past – you are in for a treat. A wide variety of colors are available in both sidewall and trim, and most companies offer long-term warranties on these finishes. Roofing materials also offer other designs options that will help to customize your metal building. Gabled roofs with steeper pitches emulate the look of more traditional architecture, and can turn a blah exterior into an eye-catching structure. The colors available in roofing materials for metal buildings also allow for splashes of color that will brighten up the exterior.

Metal Buildings as Custom-Designed Riding Arenas

Filed under: Metal Buildings — Metal Buildings Expert @ 9:07 am

For equestrian enthusiasts, custom-designed metal buildings are the answer when it comes to deciding on material for a riding arena. With flexibility and unequaled durability, metal buildings are a great option for those looking to make a smart purchase without the hassle which can accompany traditional types of building material such as wood.

A huge plus of metal buildings is the fact that metal is fire proof. This is especially important for riding arenas which often times have floors filled with combustible materials. If a fire breaks out, metal buildings contain the fire and make it much easier to put out. It also makes for a safer environment for riders, horses and spectators. Another benefit of metal buildings is the flexibility metal allows. Because riding arenas are used for a variety of different equestrian activities, there needs to be a certain level of flexibility in the structure. A riding arena needs to be able to accommodate riders taking lesson as well as riders in competition. With metal buildings, the ability to change a riding arena to suit different needs is never a problem.

Metal buildings are also great for standing up to the elements. Everything from freezing temperatures to torrential rainfall to hail storms is no match for metal buildings. And because metal buildings can take on anything Mother Nature throws out, riders and horses stay safe and comfortable no matter what time of the year it is, in any weather situation. Metal buildings have so many great features but one of the biggest is the short construction time. Erecting a metal building can take a much shorter amount of time compared to the time it takes to build a wood structure. There are designs which can be bought prefabricated, creating a quick and easy construction phase. A shorter construction time means that a riding arena is up and running in no time.

The benefits of purchasing metal buildings for custom-designed riding arenas are numerous. Compared to the alternative of using wood for construction, metal give riding arena owners the flexibility they need. Along with the flexibility, riding arena owners also get durability when buying metal buildings. That durability offers peace of mind to owners, riders, and spectators who are protected from extreme weather conditions as well as fire.

When researching custom-designed riding arenas, a buyer will do well to thoroughly check out metal buildings as an option. A quick look at the features and benefits of metal buildings will leave all other options in the dust!

Metal Buildings for Home Garages and Workshops

Filed under: Metal Buildings — Metal Buildings Expert @ 9:01 am

Having a large workshop or extra garage space is a dream for many homeowners. Being able to have an area devoted to a hobby or a garage for storing cars or just tinkering around on an old vehicle seems like an unaffordable, unrealistic wish.

Yet for a relatively small amount of money, time and energy, a homeowner can turn the dream of having additional space into a reality with the purchase of a metal building. Metal buildings allow homeowners to add additional space to an existing home without the high price tag usually found when opting to build a more traditional home addition. Metal buildings also give homeowners a solid, value-added structure to an existing home unit.

For many people, however, the savings and ease of erecting a metal building is enticing but not worth a tradeoff for the perceived physical appearance of a metal building. Most homeowners want continuity in the appearance of their homes and the idea of an addition made out of metal seems contrary to this desire.

What is possibly one of the biggest benefits of metal buildings is the fact that they come in a variety of designs and styles to blend in and even enhance the look of an existing home structure. Whether it’s brink, stucco, or stone, the veneer of a home can be used for a metal building, making the addition look like part of the original structure. Therefore, homeowners get the durability of metal with the look of a more traditional building material. Another benefit of using metal buildings for garages and/or workshops is the fact that metal is fireproof. Therefore, activities which involve welding, fire, or intense heat can be safely done without the fear of a fire spreading beyond the walls of the metal building.

Metal buildings also provide the perfect settings for activities which require ventilation. Whether a homeowner is using paint, glues or any other material which puts off a strong odor, metal buildings can give the necessary ventilation through the placement of windows, fans, or ventilation systems. Using metal buildings as garages or workshops is a great way to realize a dream of adding more room to a house without breaking the bank in the process. With the low price of metal, the do-it-yourself ease of erection, and the variety of designs, metal buildings offer homeowners an opportunity to create additional space for little money and time.

Metal Buildings: Ideal for Manufacturing Facilities

Filed under: Metal Buildings — Metal Buildings Expert @ 7:08 pm

Building a manufacturing structure is a relatively large financial investment for a company to make. Besides the cost of construction, a manufacturing company also has to consider the time it will take to build a facility to meet its specific needs.

Constructing metal buildings is the ideal answer for a manufacturing company looking to make a wise purchase decision. Metal buildings offer an outstanding number of options for exterior appearances and interior design. And, with the ability to construct a building which meets every requirement down to a T, metal buildings are hands down the best alternative for the manufacturing industry when it comes to building the perfect building.

One of the biggest advantages metal buildings have over manufacturing structures made from traditional materials is flexibility. The cost to alter an existing traditional materials building to meet the specific requirements a manufacturing company may have can be exorbitant or even impossible to do. With metal buildings, however, the internal structure is flexible, allowing for any changes a company may require in the short or long term. Metal buildings are also flexible in their ability to connect to other structures such as an office or storage building.

Metal buildings can be erected in a short amount of time which is also advantageous to manufacturing businesses. After all, smart businesses understand that time is money. The amount of time it takes to build a manufacturing facility translates to no money coming in. The construction of metal buildings takes a much shorter period of time over traditional materials construction which can mean a manufacturing business is up, running and making money in a much shorter time frame.

Lastly, metal buildings are great for not only a company as a whole but the people who work for it. Because metal buildings cannot develop mildew or mold problems, incidents of allergy attacks and related illnesses are kept at a minimum. Metal buildings are also easy to insulate, making it possible to heat and cool its interior to meet desirable internal temperatures.

Metal buildings are, without a doubt, a great investment for the money. Not only are metal buildings flexible and employee friendly, they can also be erected in a short period of time. Metal buildings can easily meet and exceed the needs of a manufacturing company’s current needs as well as those which may present themselves in the future. No manufacturing company can go wrong when deciding to go with metal.

Metal Buildings: Finding the Right Frame, Part II

Filed under: Metal Buildings — Metal Buildings Expert @ 4:26 pm

Similar to the rigid frame metal buildings are the pole barn metal buildings. Usually manufactured by companies which also make rigid frame metal buildings, pole barn metal buildings are made of metal frames but usually have wood floors and/or walls. Pole barn metal buildings can be constructed for a variety of uses but are primarily built for agriculture.

The second style of metal buildings is the arch metal structure. Sometimes referred to as the Quonset huts, arch style metal buildings are designed with interlocking metal ribs that arch to form the roof and sides of the building. While not as flexible as rigid frame metal buildings in design, arch metal buildings are much easier to assemble, making them a favorite of buyers who are looking for a building to put together themselves. These metal buildings are also less expensive to purchase.

Arch metal buildings are great for garages, sheds and storage facilities because their design is not very flexible. They are, however, built sans eaves and overhangs, making arch metal buildings ideal for protection in areas prone to hurricane and tornadoes.

When deciding on the ideal metal buildings frame, take into consideration the pros and cons of both rigid style and arch style metal buildings. Both of these metal building frames make great structures for whatever building needs an individual or business may have.
